Commercial and residential
Sasquatch Electrical is an Ellensburg-based electrical contractor, and Yakima and Selah are regular territory for us — both homes and businesses. We handle repairs, panel and service upgrades, EV chargers, lighting, generators, and commercial work from service calls through full build-outs.
Power and Permits in Yakima
A different utility than Kittitas County
Yakima and Selah are not on any of the three utilities we work with at home in Kittitas County. Power here comes from Pacific Power, which has its own requirements and its own scheduling for a service disconnect, a new meter base, or a solar interconnection. Any job that touches the service — a panel upgrade, a service change, a new commercial service — gets planned around that calendar, and we handle the coordination.
Permits work the same as in Kittitas County. Neither Yakima nor Selah runs its own electrical inspection program, so electrical permits and inspections go through the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries. We pull the permit, schedule the inspector, and stay for the inspection.
What We See in Yakima
Older homes, working buildings
Yakima has a lot of older in-town housing, and the problems inside it are familiar: 60- and 100-amp services that predate electric heat and air conditioning, Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels, aluminum branch wiring from the mid-1960s through the mid-1970s, and circuits that have been extended several times off one original run. Summer is hard on these systems here in the way winter is in the upper county — air conditioning runs for hours on services that were never sized for it.
On the commercial side, most of what we’re called for is practical: tenant improvements for retail, office and medical space, lighting retrofits and controls, service upgrades for buildings that have outgrown their original panel, and troubleshooting on three-phase equipment. We work as the electrical subcontractor for general contractors and directly for owners and facility managers.
Services Yakima Customers Ask For Most
- Commercial electrical — tenant improvements, new commercial construction, three-phase and motor controls, and service work.
- Panel and service upgrades — obsolete panel replacement and 200- or 400-amp services, with the utility shutdown coordinated for you.
- Electrical repair and troubleshooting — dead circuits, tripping breakers and failing connections. We diagnose before we quote.
- Lighting — LED retrofits, controls, and exterior and parking lot lighting for businesses; recessed and shop lighting for homes.
- EV charger installation — a load calculation first, for homes, workplaces and fleets.
- Generator installation and solar and battery backup — standby power for homes and for businesses with refrigeration, servers or scheduled operations.
