Electrician in Ellensburg, WA

Ellensburg-based licensed electrician for repairs, panel upgrades, EV chargers and more. We know City power, L&I permits and old Ellensburg wiring.

Based here, not dispatched here

Sasquatch Electrical is an Ellensburg electrical contractor — this is home base, not the edge of a service map. Owner Juan Becerra handles repairs, panel and service upgrades, EV chargers, generators, solar and commercial work for homes, landlords, businesses and public agencies in town, with crews scaled to the size of the job.

What’s Different About Electrical Work in Ellensburg

City power, state permits

Ellensburg is not wired like the rest of Kittitas County, and the difference starts at the meter. Inside city limits your power comes from the City of Ellensburg’s own municipal electric utility — not Puget Sound Energy and not Kittitas County PUD. Cross the city line and that changes, sometimes within a few blocks. It matters every time a job touches the service: a panel upgrade, a new meter base, a shop feed, or a solar interconnection all need a disconnect and reconnect scheduled with whichever utility actually serves the address. We work with all three and we confirm which one you’re on before we quote.

Permits run the other way. The City supplies the power, but it does not run its own electrical inspection program, so electrical permits and inspections in Ellensburg go through the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries. We pull the permit, schedule the inspector, and stay for the inspection.

Old Houses, Rentals and Wind

What we actually find here

Ellensburg has a lot of pre-war housing, and a large stock of rentals around the university that have been modified again and again over the decades. That history shows up inside the walls: fuse boxes and 60- or 100-amp services that predate electric heat, knob-and-tube that insurers increasingly won’t write policies on, Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels, aluminum branch wiring from the mid-1960s through the mid-1970s, and circuits extended three or four times off a single original run.

Winter is when it surfaces. Electric heat runs continuously, and connections that were marginal in July start failing in January — most of our emergency calls come between November and February. Outages in town are generally shorter than in the upper county, but Ellensburg still loses power to wind events, and a business with refrigeration or servers feels a short outage as much as a long one.

Kittitas, Thorp and the Valley

We cover the whole valley from the same shop: the town of Kittitas to the east, Thorp to the northwest, and the farms and ranches in between. Out here the work is mostly shops and outbuildings, well and pump circuits, long buried runs, and older farmhouses whose service was sized decades ago. Both towns are served by Kittitas County PUD, and permits go through L&I like everywhere else.

Services Ellensburg Customers Ask For Most

  • Electrical repair and troubleshooting — dead circuits, tripping breakers, flickering lights, and the failing connections older Ellensburg homes are known for. We diagnose before we quote.
  • Panel and service upgrades — fuse boxes, Federal Pacific and Zinsco replacements, and 200- or 400-amp services, with the City utility shutdown coordinated for you.
  • EV charger installation — a load calculation first, and an honest answer on whether your existing service can carry it.
  • Generator installation — standby units and portable hookups through a proper transfer switch or interlock.
  • Solar and battery backup — designed around the utility that actually serves your address.
  • Commercial electrical — tenant improvements, lighting, three-phase and motor controls, and public-works projects.

Ellensburg Electrical FAQ

Who is my electric utility in Ellensburg? Inside city limits it’s the City of Ellensburg’s municipal electric utility. Outside city limits it’s Kittitas County PUD or Puget Sound Energy, depending on where the property sits. The name on your power bill settles it, and we check before scheduling any work that needs a shutdown.

Who issues electrical permits in Ellensburg — the City or the state? The state. The City of Ellensburg runs the electric utility but not an electrical inspection program, so permits and inspections go through Washington L&I. We pull the permit and meet the inspector as part of the job.

Does the PSE EV charger rebate apply in Ellensburg? Not if you’re inside city limits. The rebate is for Puget Sound Energy electric customers only, and in-town addresses are served by the City’s own utility. Some addresses outside the city are on PSE and may qualify — we’ll tell you which utility you’re on before you count on it.

Do you charge travel time for jobs in Ellensburg? No. We’re based in Ellensburg, so in-town jobs carry no travel charge.
