Upper county, regular territory
Sasquatch Electrical is based in Ellensburg, about half an hour down I-90, and the upper county is regular territory for us — not an occasional trip. We handle generators, panel and service upgrades, repairs, cabin and shop wiring, and EV chargers in Cle Elum, South Cle Elum, Roslyn, Ronald, Suncadia and the rural properties around them.
Power in the Upper County
PSE in town, PUD on the rural roads
Who supplies your power here depends on where the property sits. In the towns — Cle Elum, Roslyn, Ronald — it’s generally Puget Sound Energy. Out on the rural roads it’s generally Kittitas County PUD. The two can be surprisingly close together, and the name on your power bill is what settles it.
That matters for any job that touches the service. A panel upgrade, a new meter base, a feed to a shop, or a solar interconnection needs a disconnect and reconnect scheduled with whichever utility serves the address, and each has its own process and timeline. We work with both and confirm which one you’re on before we quote.
Permits are simpler. No upper-county city runs its own electrical inspection program, so permits and inspections here go through the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries. We pull the permit and meet the inspector.
What We See in the Upper County
Elevation, wells and winter
The upper county gets the county’s longest outages and feels them the hardest. Winter storms bring wind and ice down on lines, outages at elevation can run long, and a property on a well loses water at the same moment it loses heat. Add winter access, and a problem that would be an inconvenience in town becomes a multi-day one.
The buildings add their own history. Roslyn is an old mining town, and a lot of its housing still carries services and wiring from long before electric heat. Cabins and vacation places around Cle Elum and Ronald were often wired in stages, by whoever was available at the time, and then sit empty for weeks in the coldest part of the year. Snow and ice are hard on overhead services too — a mast or meter base that’s taken a load of sliding snow needs to be looked at before it fails.
Suncadia and Tumble Creek
Regular work, not a special trip
We work in Suncadia and Tumble Creek regularly. Most of it is what a home that’s used hard on weekends and left empty midweek tends to need: hot tub and spa circuits, EV chargers, standby generators, lighting, and wiring for additions and garages. If the community’s design review applies to something visible from outside — exterior lighting, a generator location — we plan the work around it rather than finding out afterward. And because many of these homes sit empty in the coldest months, we’ll tell you plainly what’s worth protecting with backup power and what isn’t.
Services Upper-County Customers Ask For Most
- Generator installation — standby units and portable hookups through a proper transfer switch or interlock, sized for the well pump’s starting load, with propane sized for how long outages actually last here.
- Panel and service upgrades — replacing undersized and obsolete services, and 200- or 400-amp upgrades for properties adding a shop, a hot tub, electric heat or an ADU.
- Electrical repair and troubleshooting — dead circuits, tripping breakers, and the long buried runs to pump houses and outbuildings that fail in winter.
- New construction and shops — new homes, cabins, pole buildings and additions, with the utility application started early.
- EV charger installation — a load calculation first, and an honest answer on whether the existing service can carry it.
- Solar and battery backup — battery storage as an outage bridge for critical loads, designed around your utility.

Cle Elum & Roslyn Electrical FAQ
Do you charge travel to Cle Elum or Roslyn? It depends on the job. We’ll tell you exactly how travel is handled before we come out, and every estimate is written and itemized. No surprises.
Who is my electric utility in Cle Elum, Roslyn or Ronald? In the towns it’s generally Puget Sound Energy; on the rural roads it’s generally Kittitas County PUD. Your power bill settles it, and we check before scheduling any work that needs a shutdown.
Does the PSE EV charger rebate apply here? It can. The rebate is for Puget Sound Energy electric customers, which covers many in-town upper-county addresses but not properties served by the PUD. We’ll confirm which utility you’re on before you count on it.
Can a generator run my well pump? Yes, if it’s sized for it. A well pump draws several times its running current for the moment it starts, and a generator sized only for running watts will stall. We size to the starting load.
Who issues electrical permits in Cle Elum and Roslyn? Washington L&I. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection as part of the job.
